My order of play, in accordance with the guitar tab, looks like this: Intro, Chorus (middle section 2x), Post Chorus - Verse 2x, To Chorus, Chorus (middle section 2x), Post Chorus 2x, End.Įnjoy, the guitar tab is available below: The guitar tab is spaciously written across 3 pages. I love the way this technique expresses chord shapes and it’s a mainstay of my technique. You can see what I mean on the very first chord.

However, I use and fingerstyle technique (that I picked up from learning Gustavo Santaolalla songs) where I use my thumb, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fingers to arpeggiate the chords. I really take care to use the easiest chord shapes possible. Somebody Else is relatively easy to play. My camera is a Zoom Q8 with an SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Mic. (I play and record acoustically, though it’s an electric/acoustic.) As the name implies, it’s a perfect studio guitar. As you can hear, it’s an incredible and remarkably even sounding instrument.

You can also explore my Pop Music archive where I have plenty of music from, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, etc.įor this song I used my Cordoba Gk Studio. If you like this arrangement, please check my version of Father Figure by George Michael. With everything I do on this blog, I try to pare it down till I get a guitar piece that is elegant. I really worked the arrangement for about a week: tweaking and eliminating notes, and even whole sections. I knew this song would take on another dimension through the prism of my classical guitar. I only recently heard Somebody Else, by The 1975, and I totally loved it. Please email contact me through the Contact Form if you have any questions at all.I get so wrapped up in film score stuff - that I’m living under a rock sometimes when it comes to pop music.

This time however, all of the hands are played on the snare (except the “+” of beat 3 on the high tom), with the accents falling in various places and all of the other notes being played as quietly as possible as ghost notes…the ones written in brackets. This displays what I was talking about above where both hands are playing alternating singles (RLRL). The drum fill that occurs at 45 seconds is my favourite in the song. Notice the open Hi-Hats at the end of each bar and the extra bass drum on beat 4 of bar 2. Although I haven’t written it down, I notice that when George plays this live his left hand is very quietly filling in all the “swung” sixteenth notes on the snare drum…so technically it’s a two handed groove, but can be played as written until you feel comfortable enough to add the ghost notes in. George comes in with the drum beat at 0:10 and features an offbeat accent on the Hi-Hat on the “+” of each beat. This means that they have the triplet lilt to them when being played. The first thing to mention is that all Sixteenth notes throughout the song are “swung”. In this free drum lesson, I have the both a drum fill and drum beat from “ Chocolate” by The 1975, featuring the drumming of George Daniel.
